Nearly $2 million was invested by the Depot´s owner, the State Department of Natural Resources. This investment is the result of a partnership between federal transportation enhancement monies, state appropriations, DNR preservation funds and Missouri Energy grants. Between 1998 and 2001, these entities completed an impressive exterior and interior renovation. Another $1 million was secured by the Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce and Sedalia Heritage Foundation through Housing and Urban Development Economic Initiative and Missouri Department of Transportation Enhancement Grants; city appropriations, humanities grants, capital campaign, local lodging tax support, and various private foundation grants. Between 2000 and 2003, this funding completed enhancements to the building and site as well as developed impressive heritage exhibits depicting the railroads influence on this area. Friends of the Depot have enthusiastically supported both the mission of preserving the Historic Katy Depot and in developing heritage exhibits. Support of the Friends have provided the required local matching funds for the various grants. In addition to their financial support Friends have contributed valuable time, products and services; and donated historic photographs, documents and railroad artifacts. Donations from individuals and businesses remain vital to the future of the Sedalia Katy Depot Project. Investments will support further site enhancement, interpretive programs and maintenance of this historic building. An approximate $125,000 budget is needed to accomplish this next phase of development. The Foundation holds a 501 (c) (3) designation which means that donations are eligible to receive a charitable tax deduction. The Foundation can accept cash, checks, stocks, insurance, and inkind donations. Donations may be pledged over a multi year period. Deferred gifts such as bequests and charitable trusts are welcome.
